Fugitive - Robin Hood Retold
How far will you go for your ideals and the quest for justice?

Fugitive - Robin Hood Retold is an edgy new production by Windmill Theatre in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre’s in SPACE program.

Fast, funny and dark Fugitive contains strong language, violent themes, corruption and disguise and is suitable for ages 15+ and their families. The production premieres on 3 August playing to 14 August with previews from 30 July in the Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre.

More than one year in development Fugitive is a collaboration between writer Matthew Whittet and the director/designer team that created The Wizard of Oz, Rosemary Myers and Jonathon Oxlade.  Composer Luke Smiles and lighting designer Richard Vabre complete the creative team.

Fugitive is set in a future leaderless Australia; a fantasy, manga, Mad Max, hip hop, slacker Australia where suburbia is under siege from self appointed law makers and fear pervades as doors and windows are barred … though K Mart and McDonalds are open for business.

Writer Matthew Whittet, who is regarded as an exciting new voice in theatre will also perform in Fugitive. He has many film and television roles to his credit including Australia (Brother Frank), Moulin Rouge, Sea Patrol, All Saints, Blue Heelers, White Collar Blue and Changi.

Fugitive stars Eamon Farren (who recently wrapped on two new Australian feature films, Red Dog and X) as Robin, a cool mysterious young champion of the underdog with a strange power and a backpack full of destruction; Matthew Whittet is Will, Robin’s old friend who likes to wear red and who has looked after Robin’s girlfriend during his recent disappearance; Louisa Mignone plays Robin’s saucy streetwise girlfriend with the moral compass, Marion Maid; Danielle Catanzariti is Much Junior; Patrick Graham is John who has just lost his job at a takeaway chicken outlet while Geoff Revell takes the roles of Marion’s father Mr Maid and hit man Craig

Windmill Director Rosemary Myers said, ‘Like Windmill’s production of Wizard of Oz, Fugitive re-explores an archetypal story to speak to a new audience not usually catered for in the performing arts.  Fugitive, is a modern take on Robin Hood, a rites of passage story and a love triangle engaging heavily with pop culture. The production asks us to how far we are prepared to go for our ideals and in the quest for justice when structures of law and order are removed? When does claiming justice becomes a crime.’
